The city of Louisville, Kentucky was chartered in 1780 in honor of King Louis XVI. Located on the falls of the Ohio River, the southern city has become famous for several reasons. First, the basketball team the Kentucky Colonels won the most games in the history of the American Basketball Association, despite it not being included in the 1976 merger with the NBA. Aside from its basketball success, the city of Louisville hosts the infamous Kentucky Derby, and is home to other well-known teams like the Louisville Bats, Racing Louisville Football Club, and Louisville City FC. Even in college sports, the University of Louisville has found success in several sports, as well as earned 3 NCAA championships in basketball.
